We have begun fundraising to bring light and electricity to the Gran Sous Communication center. This project is being driven by a partnership with Chad Groshart, an architectural lighting designer from the US who helps architects build more sustainable lighting systems for their commercial buildings Chad brings experience working in developing nations providing solar powered lighting.
We are planning to install photovoltaic (solar) panels on the roof of the second story of the Comnmunity center when it is complete later this summer.
The communication center, located above the tools storage depot, will be a space that organizers can use to hold community meetings
Having solar power feed a battery bank will allow the operation of computers and the charging of cell phones. These will be available to the people of Gran Sous for a small fee. This fee will go to maintaining the equipment and to generate income toward the next community initiative.
A bright place among the darkness will create a natural gathering place to help the people of Gran Sous continue to improve conditions for the group and stay connnected to the outside world through affordable web and phone service.
We expect to hear about our first round of funding within a few weeks and are reaching out to the lighting industry for their support for this great cause.
Much more to come!
